Art Talk with David Cotner and Artist Edward Walton Wilcox

In Art on June 2, 2010

Artist Edward Walton Wilcox discusses life, death, vice versa, and other metaphysical trifles. An expansive aspect of his ongoing exhibition “Fanatic,” on display through June 12, Wilcox takes this opportunity to open the floor to questions and accusations about his past and recent work — which, in point of fact, falls somewhere between classicism and pop surrealism. A native of the Hollywood Hills, Walton’s work has appeared in publications ranging from the highest of the high to the lowest of the brow. You’ve probably seen his starkly serene and enigmatic post-gothic dreamscapes in Juxtapoz, as well as the Los Angeles Times — which gives the public eye a nice break from blank-faced microcephalics or the nth iteration of “wacky” monsters *(&*&^ hot rods up the tailpipe. Merry Karnowsky Gallery, 170 S. La Brea Ave. (in the ART 170 Building), L.A.; Wed., June 2, 7 p.m., free. (323) 933-4408, mkgallery.com . –David Cotner
